Letters are going out this week to parents to give you more information about this new project. Please read it carefully and let us know if you are able to donate to us any of the items we are in need of. Thank you.
We are very excited to tell you that we are starting a new project at school. Currently the KS2 Courtyard which the Key Stage 2 hall and classes wrap around, is unused. We are in the process of planning to make this a multi-purpose quiet area, called ‘The Haven’. The current fish pond will stay in situ as we are very fortunate to have an abundance of wildlife calling it home, including fish and newts.
It is hoped that the area will be able to benefit the children in a number of ways. They already visit the pond to explore its environment and discover the wildlife that it supports, and as already mentioned this will continue. However, we hope to have a covered seating aspect that can be used to listen to readers or small group work. Quiet areas for group work are always difficult to find in our busy school so this will be a great help. The area will also be used for the children who work with Mrs Lowe, as it will have similar aspects to The Den but with fresh air and [hopefully] sunshine.
There will also be a sensory aspect to the area, such as through texture, colour and sound. However, other than the vegetation in the pond area, we are not planning to have any other plants to help keep the maintenance of the area to a minimum.
