At school we take our responsibilities of safeguarding the children very seriously. A child's welfare is paramount above all else. When both children and other family members see and talk to me they can be assured that what they tell me will be confidential unless they give me permission to share it and then this would only ever be on a need to know basis.
However, there are certain situations when confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. If a child or individual informs me of something that may put them or someone else at risk of significant harm, or if they disclose an incident of significant harm already occuring then under my duty of care, I have to pass this information on to the appropriate authorities. Whenever possible this will be discussed with the involved family first.
